practical tools for reducing burnout

Council reduces the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization identified as two of the three domains most highly correlated with risk of burnout. Listening without judgment and speaking authentically lessens isolation and fosters empathy, leading to an ability to practice with less cynicism towards colleagues and patients

The CARE Program offers practical skills for recognizing and managing stress, honing attention, regulating emotions, and enriching relationships with colleagues and patients.

Our evidence-based approach helps develop better self-awareness and self-regulation, protecting against acute and chronic dysregulation, which can lead to burnout and other negative health implications.

evidence-based & scalable with replicable results

Through a robust evidence-based curriculum, interactive exercises and small group councils that teach participants durable techniques for developing greater self-awareness, participants are equipped to communicate more effectively with peers, as well as patients, providing a higher quality of care.

physician burnout: addressing an epidemic

Burnout amongst healthcare professionals results in myriad personal and professional repercussions. Studies have demonstrated that individuals experiencing burnout are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, as well as a host of other health consequences, including:

  • type 2 diabetes
  • hypercholesterolemia
  • coronary heart disease
  • hospitalization due to cardiovascular disorder
  • musculoskeletal pain
  • changes in pain experiences
  • prolonged fatigue
  • headaches
  • gastrointestinal issues
  • respiratory problems
  • severe injuries

Burnout may also contribute to the increased risk of suicide that exists among healthcare workers; as many as 400 physicians die by suicide each year in the US, more than twice that of the general population.

  • More than 50% of US physicians report symptoms of burnout
  • 24% of ICU nurses tested positive for symptoms of PTSD
  • 33 % of new registered nurses seek another job within a year
  • 59% of physicians would not recommend a career in medicine to their children
  • Costs for burnout-related turnover among physicians and nurses may exceed $40 billion annually.

A solution is needed, and fast.
